It's Not Your Father's Rotary:

Council on Legislation Adopts Sweeping Changes

Every 3 years Rotary International convenes a Council on Legislation to consider proposed enactments and resolutions. These may originate from Rotary Clubs, from the RI Board of Directors, or from the Foundation Board of Trustees. It is a notoriously conservative group, one that does not easily embrace change. It took decades to approve a fifth Avenue of Service (Youth Services), for example. This year was different. All the conventional wisdom was wrong, and the council enacted dramatic changes to the way clubs may function. Some examples: No more required weekly meetings, no more required attendance, no requirement that members be persons with discretionary authority in their businesses. It's a new world of Rotary, one that the council and RI Board hope will spur membership growth. Times have changed, and Rotary is changing, too. The District 5500 representative was Past District Governor Michael Drake. He has prepared a summary of the council's enactments and resolutions, and this summary is being disseminated throughout the Western US. It is worth your while to take time to read this summary. You will be stunned by the magnitude of the change. You can access it here:
