Shelterbox HERO Clubs Recognized

Congratulations to these District 5500 Rotary Clubs for receiving ShelterBox HERO recognition for Quarter 2 of the Rotary Year!

A Bronze HERO recognition level is achieved at $1,000, Silver at $3,000, Gold at $5,000, and Platinum at 10K in total giving within the Rotary year.

In 2023, Shelterbox supported more than 325,000 people (approximately 65,000 households) in 13 countries.

Worldwide Polio Update

The good news: No new cases of wild poliovirus (WPV) caused paralysis reported so far in 2024, but with 9 positive environmental samples for WPV type 1 (7 in Afghanistan & 3 in Pakistan)— the risk is still out there for unvaccinated/undervaccinated. Total WPV cases worldwide in 2023: 12, down from 30 cases in 2022.

DESIGN SOUGHT FOR NEW AZ ROTARY LICENSE PLATE!

The year-long effort to raise funds needed to pursue state approval for an Arizona Rotary license plate has been successful, and the next step now is to submit to the state a final design for the specialty plate.

Rotarians across Arizona are invited to help create a design for the specialized Rotary license plate. Designs must also conform to current Rotary branding requirements and State of AZ guidelines. All designs should be submitted to azrotarylicenseplates@gmail.com by Feb. 15, 2024.

Rotary Youth Exchange Opportunities

The latest listing of camps and tours for youth exchange is listed on the District website here, and more info about the programs here.

Short-term options include family-to-family with a student from another country, and camps or tours in primarily European countries as well as.

India, Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Canada. Family-to-Family is the least expensive option. Camps and tours focus on a specific activity with students from other countries.
