Michael is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Tucson Sunset, which was chartered in 1983. In 1992-93 he served as Club President. Michael has served Rotary District 5500 as Inbound GSE Chairman twice, District Parliamentarian, District Secretary, Rotary Foundation Promotion Chairman, Outbound GSE Chairman, Assistant District Governor, and co-Chairman of the Ambassadorial Scholar and World Peace Fellow Programs.

He was a member of D5500’s all Rotarian GSE team to the Russian Far East in 1998 and was Team Leader for the GSE team to Japan in 2007. Michael has participated in four Rotary Friendship Exchanges and traveled to India in 2005 to participate in a Polio National Immunization Day. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation.

Michael graduated from Stanford University and the University of Arizona College of Law. Michael is past-president of the Pima County Bar Association and served 12 years as a Hearing Officer for the Arizona Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Commission. He currently practices personal injury law and civil litigation in Tucson .

DISTRICT 5500 2011-2012 GOALS

During the 2011-2012 Rotary Year, District 5500 will help clubs achieve the four characteristics of effective Rotary clubs:

Membership

The Membership Committee will assist each club to understand and apply best practices for recruiting and retaining quality Rotarians.

Every club will realize a net increase of at least three new Rotarians.

One new Rotary club and one new community-based Rotaract club will be chartered.

Service

Each club will participate in meaningful hands-on community and international service projects. Each club will apply for a District Simplified Grant to help in those projects.

Each club will participate in a community service project on April 28, 2012, Rotarians at Work Day, in District 5500.

Rotary Foundation

The District Rotary Foundation Committee, with representatives in each geographic area, will assist Rotarians in each club to understand the value of contributions to The Rotary Foundation and the programs of the Foundation.

Each club will participate in at least one Rotary Foundation educational or humanitarian program.

Our Rotarians and clubs will participate in Every Rotarian Every Year. Every Rotarian and every club will contribute to the Annual Program Fund, with an average per capita giving of $150.00.

Clubs will contribute at least $1,000.00 to Polio Plus to help meet the Gates Foundation $200 Million Challenge.

Rotarians and clubs will receive training and begin learning about the Future Vision Plan, a restructuring of the Foundation which begins
July 1, 2013.

Leadership

Club and District leaders will implement the R.I. Strategic Plan and the District 5500 Strategic Plan.

District 5500 will provide financial assistance to each club to support attendance at the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI). Each club will enroll at least one member in RLI.

District 5500 will provide financial assistance to each club to support attendance at Presidents-elect Training Seminar (PETS). The President-Elect of each club will attend the Arizona Tri-Districts PETS March 2-3, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona.
