A Message from RI Director Dan Himelspach

Interestingly our soon to be RI President Stephanie often addresses her remarks to “My Rotary Family.” The concept of embracing our fellow Rotarians as family members could have a surprisingly far-reaching effect.

Rotary is an organization that practices prosocial behavior. This means we take actions that benefit others or society - the opposite of antisocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is often associated with multiple positive outcomes, including reduced stress, improved mental health, and enhanced well-being. Studies have found that volunteering, doing acts of kindness and helping others involves building and maintaining social connections which are associated with lower blood pressure and improved cardiovascular health. People who experience these outcomes tend to have an increased lifespan and experience greater happiness.

DISTRICT NEWS
Peace Pole Project at the State Capitol

Rotary club members in Arizona have a long history of planting Peace Poles throughout our state and throughout the world, and Rotary Districts 5495 and 5500 are spearheading this project to plant a Peace Pole in the Rose Garden at the Arizona State Capitol.

State Senator Mitzi Epstein has introduced the peace pole bill: Senate Bill (SB) 1513 (peace pole monument; government mall.)

It is a bi-partisan effort created as a symbol to our peoples and to the rest of the country that we stand strong, united in our mission to promote peace and harmony for the good of all. No taxpayer funds will be used for the project. Please contact your state legislators and ask them to support the bill.

Ride to End Polio Trophy on Display at RI Headquarters

Did you know that we are the only district represented with a trophy at Rotary International Headquarters?

Our Ride to End Polio trophy is proudly displayed for all visitors to see, near the office of Rotary's General Secretary/CEO John Hewko. Thanks to a Past Governor friend in Evanston, Illinois, the trophy has been completely updated with top fundraisers -- teams and individuals -- clearly visible. Our 2023 Ride in Southern Arizona raised $4,800,000 to help end polio forever.
