ROTARY FOUNDATION DAY

During the D5500 Foundation Seminar on November 7th, 2015, participants were asked to tell us about a time when the Rotary Foundation was meaningful to them and/or why they choose to give to the TRF. Their reflections below highlight the personal experiences that most have had with the good work, people, and vision that the Foundation has provided for them and the world. Food for thought.
 
  • I am impressed with the leverage we are getting in providing a program on bullying in Ajijic, MX.
  • My GSE experience in 2000 to Hokkaido, Japan.
  • I support Rotary because of the local causes we support and the fellowship with my members.
  • Looking to the future.
  • The Ride to End Polio provides an opportunity to make a difference. Soon we will be able to say we played a part in the eradication of polio from the world, only the second time in history a human disease has ever been defeated.
  • The RI Foundation is my charity of choice because I know my money is being spent directly on projects and people, not on administration expenses.
  • Eliminating polio will be an achievement for all mankind that cannot be reversed!
  • The Foundation provides the opportunity to help others worldwide.
  • The Rotary Foundation always seeks to tackle the local and international projects that unite the good will and generosity of diverse cultures and generations.
  • My Rotary Foundation experience became very real when I visited the Tepehua Community Center in Mexico, seeing pictures of the kids who attended school because of Rotary.
  • In a word, “Polio.”
  • It represents the highest part of Maslow’s Hierarch of needs.
  • I think it is meaningful that funds to the Foundation come significantly from individuals with small contributions. Programs such as EREY at $100 show that there is broad commitment by many to do good in the world.
  • When I was able to give two drops to a baby! I have Given to the Rotary Foundation since I joined Rotary in 1987. I read about it and all it did at home and abroad.
  • Global grants – Polio eradication – Youth Exchange
  • In 2005, I participated in a polio NID in India. My role in the eradication of polio was small, but I felt like I contributed to a very large effort.
  • I want to assist people change their lives – help make our world a better place for all. I like the ability to help my local community as well as the global community.
  • My best moment with the Foundation was today at the Foundation Seminar -  At Gary Hirsch’s morning discussion with Polio Survivors!
  • I have been a Rotarian for less than 6 years so my experience is still relatively limited. What appeals to me about Rotary is the “multiplier effect” in that many Rotarians can pull their time and resources (money) together to do great projects, large and small, local and global. This is why I have supported and contributed to the Rotary Foundation.
  • I donate because I was asked. I already knew the good the Foundation does in the world. I support Polio also because of knowing those who were affected.
  • WOW – What an opportunity and privilege to help people around the world have a better life – today and tomorrow.
  • It makes me feel good that I can make a difference.
  • The Foundation has offered me the opportunity to meet, engage, befriend, and collaborate with other like-minded people around the world who want to make a difference in the lives of others.
  • I have always donated to the Foundation since I joined Rotary in 1986. It meets all the requirements that I have for a charitable organization. The Polio Plus program has always been meaningful to me as I had a friend in high school who died from Polio.
  • My Rotary moment happened before I was a Rotarian. We visited Project Amigo in Mexico and I saw firsthand the projects and the difference they made. I said, “If that’s what Rotary does, I need to join!”
  • Grant support for community projects in Hermosillo, MX.
  • Personal experience with projects my club is doing in Ajijic, MX; Polio eradication
  • My original Rotary club in California delivered wheelchairs to a town in Mexico. Seeing the joy on the faces of the people who received them was fantastic. Some of them had to crawled every day until they got a chair.
